The oldest resorts on the island (Lubenice, Osor, Beli) have a history which dates back over 400 years and the Roman town of Osor was a diocesan town in the 9th century. Losinj was virtually unpopulated until the mid-13th century and developed to become one of the leading sea powers in the 19th century. The town of Mali Losinj was the second most important harbour on the Adriatic coast after Trieste.
The first hotel was built in 1887 and named after the ancient Roman name for the city of Vienna, Vindobona. Given its mild climate, Losinj was named as a health resort by the Ministry for Health of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy in 1892. As a result, Losinj became one of the most popular holiday destinations for the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy who had the many villas and Summer houses built which can still be seen on the island today. Have we made you curious? Yes, the islands of Cres & Losinj are certainly worth a visit.
As has been the case over the last few years, the standard of the Campgrounds Cres & Lošinj and Hotels Cres & Lošinj has been persistently improved. The wash blocks at the campsites have been brought up to the latest standards, new pitches have been allocated and the access routes have been improved.
The Hotel Vespera has been transformed into a **** oasis for families with children. The cascading pool area facing the sea with a water massage, 2 kids’ pools with a water chute and waterfalls make this an ideal destination for families. The Hotel Aurora**** is an ideal addition to the area. It was opened in 2008 and focuses on well-being.
